Arauco工厂一名员工感染新冠病毒，80.5万吨一年的浆厂关闭

SAN FRANCISCO, 25 March 2020 (Fastmarkets RISI) - Arauco, the world’s second largest market pulp producer, began shutting down its 805,000 tonnes/yr Arauco (Horcones) market pulp mill in Chile on Wednesday after a worker was struck by coronavirus (COVID-19), Fastmarkets RISI has learned.
Arauco Horcones, located in Región del Biobío of Chile, has 805,000 tonnes/yr of market bleached radiata pine (BKP) and bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) capacity on two production lines, according to Fastmarkets RISI’s Asset Database. It employs 593 workers.
Arauco, which idled production at the mill today after at least one worker at the facility was hit by COVID-19, didn’t know when the mill would restart production. However, when it does resume operations it will likely ramp up only one of two production lines.
“We do not know for how long at this stage, but we hope it will be only a few days,” said an industry contact regarding the Arauco Horcones shutdown. “However due to personnel in quarantine it’s most possible (Arauco) will be operating only line 2, that is the softwood line only.”
Arauco Horcones is the second mill the firm unexpectedly shutdown in recent months. The firm idled its Licancel mill in Chile on Dec. 20 after a drought led to unusually low water flow at the Mataquito river. Licancel has capacity to produce 154,000 tonnes/year of unbleached kraft pulp (UKP).
